Gombe Revenue Tribunal Generates N12 Billion Within A Year

The Gombe State Revenue Recovery Tribunal has generated N12 billion within a year as revenue to the state government.
Chairman of the revenue recovery tribunal His Workship Muhammad Tukur Jungudo stated this during the commemoration of one year anniversary of the tribunal.
He explained that the tribunal was established last year on the 5th of October 2022 with the mandate to recover government's revenues from companies and individuals.
Jungudo, noted that the aim of the tribunal is to surmount the problems of tax evasion which causes government to lose a lot of incomes and to ensure fairness and transparency in the tax system.
He said another objective is enhancing tax payers' confidence and curtailing delays and bottlenecks in the adjudication of tax matters at conventional courts.
He therefore said with the establishment of this tribunal, the revenue of Gombe state has risen, which shows that from October to December 2022 the state revenue has risen to N6.6 billion and also from January to September 2023 to N12 billion.
In his remarks during the commemoration ceremony, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya represented by his deputy Manasseh Jatau said experience has shown that all over the world, revenue is a crucial element in the running of government.
He pointed out that various empires, kingdoms now and before colonial era, there were people saddled with the responsibility of collecting revenues in the society adding that tax payers should be paying their dues as at when due in order to enable government deliver dividends of democracy.
"While the drive for revenue generation, collection and utilization have been the magnet towards which leaders are attracted to the administration under the transparent, accountable, and good governance of his excellency Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, he saw the compelling need to set up the Gombe State Revenue Recovery Tribuna.", he stated.
He therefore said records available indicates that this is the first of such in the entire North east geo political zone.
Yahaya, admitted that before the establishment of the tribunal, the state's revenue stood at N10.6 billion, but increased to N18.9 billion after the establishment.
